| spa |
dc.description.abstract | Many microorganisms have the ability to form biofilm, associated with the persistence of infections and the resistance acquired by some bacteria. Currently, antimicrobial peptides have been studied which fulfill immunomodulatory functions, such as the human cationic defense peptide LL-37, which is stored mainly in specific granules of neutrophils and in epithelial coatings of different organs of the human body, as well as having antimicrobial activity and good action on the formation of biofilm in bacteria. The biofilm or biofilm is a plate of bacterial agglomerates which is formed when bacteria adhere to an inert surface or living tissue, where they grow with structured formation through a communication mechanism called quorum sensing, which gives them greater resistance. The formation of biofilm by Gram negative bacteria provides them with a powerful virulence factor, resistance and limitations when treating these infections, therefore new treatment alternatives have been chosen, such as the use of antimicrobial peptides derived from LL-37 . The antimicrobial peptide LL-37 plays a fundamental role in the immune system to act against Gram negative bacteria, due to its broad spectrum of antimicrobial action that can have greater permeability of the membrane of these pathogens, it also has protection against proteolytic degradation and lacks disulfide bridges thus allowing easier and cheaper chemical synthesis. Therefore, the inhibitory effect on the formation of the biofilm from the human cationic defense peptide LL-37 and its derivatives DLL-37, LL37-AC2 and LL37-I in Gram negative bacteria of human origin and of bovines diagnosed with mastitis will be determined. | eng |
